As a youngster, John Hlinko never dreamed he would grow up to record a Grammy-winning duet with country music legend Willie Nelson. And indeed, it never happened. But John has been long recognized as an innovator on the grassroots engagement front, received numerous awards for his work, and been covered by nearly all the major broadcast and print news outlets. He has also been quoted as a grassroots expert in books ranging from "Power Public Relations" to "Burning at the Grassroots." John previously served as the Vice President of Marketing and Creative Engagement with the Grassroots Enterprise. During his tenure in that role, he helped drive a nearly 300% increase in the firm's revenues. In recognition of his work, the American Association of Political Consultants awarded him its prestigious "Rookie of the Year" Pollie, an award for excellence in public affairs. In 2004, he was named one of the world's top 25, "individuals, organizations and companies that are having the greatest impact on the way the Internet is changing politics," by the World Forum on e-Democracy. And in early 2006, PR Week named him as one of the top five "PR Professionals of the Year." John was the founder of "DraftWesleyClark.com," one of the most successful grassroots movements in American political history, and the 2004 "Golden Dot" winner for "Best Breakout/Impact Internet Movement." In 1998, he helped lead MoveOn.org, an anti-impeachment petition that generated over half a million signatures and several million dollars in donations, and redefined American democracy. Holsten has run a wide range of technology and media enterprises over the last two decades. As President of Ziff Davis International, Holston managed Ziff Davis' operations across more than 100 countries, and launched Yahoo! Europe. He was part of the senior management team that led the successful LBO of ZD by Forstmann, Little, and subsequent sale to Softbank. Since selling his last technology start-up, Holston has helped create a wide range of for-profit and not-for-profit entities, including Media-x at Stanford, among several others. After receiving a BA in creative writing from Stanford in 1979, he taught English at Phillips Academy, worked as a consultant for the Boston Consulting Group in Boston, studied and wrote in Paris, France, then worked in strategic planning for NBC and RCA. J.B. received his MBA from Stanford in 1986, then worked on Jack Welch's staff at GE before moving back to NBC where for five years he was responsible for strategic planning and NBC's international operations. |

Andrew Hoppin co-founded the NASA CoLab project at NASA Ames Research Center, which builds online and offline partnerships between NASA and external communities of practice such as the entrepreneurial technology community of the San Francisco Bay Area, the global open-source software movement, and space advocates in the virtual world of "Second Life." As an entrepreneur, Andrew has co-founded and directed business development for GoodStorm, a progressive eCommerce venture that helps organizations raise money to support themselves, and Trellon, a leading open-source software consulting firm for online community building, and MoonFront, an aerospace design consulting firm. He also directed business strategy for CivicSpace Labs, a developer of software and communities for online organizing and advocacy, and executed marketing campaigns for leading technology startups such as mobile messaging provider Jaiku (now Google) and online geographic data provider N Space Labs. As a grassroots political organizer, in 2003, Andrew founded the largest local group in the Draft Clark movement, New York for Clark, and later joined the Wesley Clark for President campaign staff to help manage the campaign's voter data and the nation's first open-source campaign software volunteer program. He also co-created the "RootsCamp" political meeting series in Second Life in 2006, and the Yearly Kos "virtual convention" in Second Life in 2007. Andrew serves on the Advisory Boards of Netroots Nation (formerly Yearly Kos), the Space Generation Foundation, Yenza and the New Organizing Institute. Founder and CEO, AdaptiveBlue Alex launched AdaptiveBlue because he was inspired by the vision of a personalized web. He is passionate about building elegant software that helps people save time and makes their online experience effective and enjoyable. His previous startup, Information Laboratory, was focused on applying the ideas of Complexity Science to software engineering. Alex and his team developed a tool, called Small Worlds, which automatically identified structural problems in large-scale software systems.
